David Wilson  

Dave Wilson: Managing Director
NZCE (Civil)

As a Director and General Manager of the Roading Company Ltd. Dave has over 30 years experience in the roading and civil construction industry, 15 of which have been in management positions. Dave has extensive experience of managing contracting firms and supervising construction works in the Southland and Otago regions. Dave started his career as a consulting engineer and provides sound technical expertise in both design and construction.

Dave established The Roading Company in 2003 and since that time has developed the company into a major provider to NZTA, local government and the private sector.

 

Mark Cruden  

Mark Cruden: Engineer
BEng (hons), MIPENZ, CPEng

As a Chartered Professional Engineer Mark has extensive design and project management experience in the New Zealand Civil Construction Industry. Mark has been with The Roading Company since 2008.

Through his professional qualifications and experience Mark provides our clients with extensive design, project management and technical expertise in the areas of road construction and realignment, pavement stabilising and general civil design.

In his previous role as a Branch Transportation Team Leader with a leading international consultancy Mark had overall responsibility for the design and delivery of $10M per annum of capital roading and civil projects on behalf of local government and private developers.

 

Regan McRandle  

Regan McRandle: Project Manager
NZCE (Civil)

We welcome Regan McRandle to our team as Project Manager in the Southland region.

Regan's experience in the Civil Construction industry includes roles as Assistant Engineer, Construction Site Engineer, Survey Team Leader, Laboratory Technician, Geotechnical Technician and Road & Traffic Maintenance Engineer.

During this time Regan has successfully supervised numerous physical works contracts including the implementation of quality assurance, health and safety and has developed sound working relationships with clients and local contractors.

In his previous role, Regan has held the position of Site Engineer for physical works contracts for Southern Institute of Technology and NZTA and as Survey Team Leader for NZTA and private developers.

Regan has broad knowledge and experience of surveying, design and construction inputs and material performance through laboratory work and site experience.

 

Alan Hudson  

Alan Hudson: Construction Manager

Alan is the Company’s Construction Manager and as such plays an integral part in the day to day management of all our construction teams. In this role he is largely responsible for maintaining Quality Assurance standards on all contracts.

With over 30 years experience in the industry Alan has a proven ability to achieve excellent construction results, manage staff; implement traffic management, manage health and safety, and liaise with Engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.

Alan has extensive experience in the construction of granular and stabilised pavements and is well versed in the specific issues and challenges involved in these methods of construction.

 

Ross Clearwater  

Ross Clearwater: Construction Supervisor – Central Otago

Ross has had over 25 years experience in the civil construction industry, including 15 years of construction experience as a foreman in the Queenstown Lakes area. Prior to that Ross was a Sealing Foreman with Bitumix.

Ross has been with The Roading Company since August 2008.

This experience combined with his technical expertise and understanding of construction standards ensure that works are undertaken efficiently, safely and in accordance with contract specifications.

Ross leads by example and has developed strong working relationships with Engineers, Site Supervisors and within the Central Otago construction crew,

 

Peter Newton  

Peter Newton: Construction Supervisor - Southland

Peter is a highly skilled and very experienced grader operator with many years experience in the industry.   He has operated as Site Supervisor on many projects in the Southland area and is extremely knowledgeable on local conditions and requirements.

Previously employed as a Grader Operator/Site Supervisor with SouthRoads, Peter brings his valuable expertise to The Roading Company crew.  He consistently achieves excellent construction results, manages staff, implements traffic management, manages health and safety and competently liaises with Engineer Representative’s, subcontractors and suppliers.

 

Graham Glenn  

Graham Glenn: Construction Supervisor - Southland

Graham has over 10 years experience in the civil construction industry.

He has been with the Roading Company since January 2004, initially as plant operator and more recently as Site Supervisor. During this time he has played a large part in successfully completing several contracts for the Clutha District Council, Southland District Council, Queenstown Lakes District Council and NZTA.

Graham has proven himself to be an extremely competent grader operator. He has gained experience in managing subcontractors, aggregate suppliers and health and safety requirements and he has a very good understanding of traffic management requirements.

Graham has a thorough understanding of contract specification requirements and maintains a high standard of quality assurance records for the contracts he supervises.

Graham has good communication skills and makes himself available to liaise with the Engineer’s Representative to discuss any on site issues.

 

Chris Hurring  

Chris Hurring: Plant Operator - Central Otago

Chris joined The Roading Company in 2006 in Southland, and in early 2010 Chris and his family relocated to Cromwell to join the Central Otago based team.

Chris is STMS trained, has an excellent safety record and he holds several relevant industry qualifications including national certificates in Civil Plant Operation (multi-skilled) and Civil Construction Works, Operate Safe Silver Card.  Other qualifications include Forklift Operator, First Aid, Hazardous Goods and Rural Firefighting.

Chris is a competent driver and operator.   He has experience operating a wide range of machinery and is developing good grader operation skills.  With a keen mechanical interest he uses his skills to ensure plant and equipment is well maintained. 

Chris takes pride in the quality of work he completes and maintains a high standard of quality assurance records for the projects he is involved with.  He has developed excellent working relationships with team members and clients.

 

Ian Findlay  

Ian Findlay: Plant Operator - Southland

Ian has worked in the construction industry for many years, joining The Roading Company in 2009.

Ian holds his STMS Level 1, Operate Safe Silver Card and Site Safe Civil Passport, along with several industry related qualifications. 

Ian is a competent driver and operator.  He has experience operating a wide range of machinery and is developing good grader operation skills.  He has developed an excellent culture within the construction crews and combines his practical experience and technical skills to ensure works are undertaken efficiently and safely on site.

 

Murray Kitto  

Murray Kitto: Plant Operator - Southland

Murray joined The Roading Company in 2003 following several years experience in the industry.

Murray holds his STMS Level 1, Operate Safe Silver Card and Site Safe Civil Passport, along with other industry related qualifications including Survey/Setout, 4WD Safety, H&S and Environment Operation to Level 3, H&S Rep Training Stage 1 and is First Aid trained.

Murray is particularly Health and Safety conscious and has been the company’s Health and Safety Representative for the past seasons.  His interest in ensuring site safety gives him a good understanding of traffic management and safety requirements, which he passes onto team members.

Murray is a conscientious and versatile operator, combined with many years of practical experience.  He maintains a high standard of safety and quality assurance on the projects he is involved with.

 

Howie Turner  

Howie Turner: Plant Operator - Southland

Howie joined the company in 2008 as a trainee plant operator. Since this time Howie has proved himself to be enthusiastic and quick to learn.

Under the watchful eye of his site supervisors, Howie has gained experience in both construction and drainage works, including heavy truck and tractor operation, towing, roller and digger operation and drainage works. He has recently been operating the company's Sumitomo excavator and taking responsibility for on site management of drainage operations.

Howie has gained several external qualifications including Traffic Controller, Site Safe Civil Passport, Operate Safe Red Card, Trench Compaction, Slinging and Lifting, Red Cross First Aid and he has completed a 'National Certificate in Civil Plant Operation Level 3'.

 

Howie Turner  

Dan Clearwater: Plant Operator - Southland

Dan joined the Central Otago crew in late 2011 as labourer and plant operator.  He has proved a competent plant operator and has since gained his Wheels, Tracks, Rollers and Class 4 licences and Site Safe, Traffic Controller and St John First Aid Workplace Certificate. 

Dan is hard working and a responsible team member with good skills and is a welcome asset to the crew.

 

Howie Turner  

Nathan White: Plant Operator - Southland

Nathan joins us in Southland from TSK Whites with a crushing industry background. He is looking forward to expanding his knowledge and skills into on-site construction. 

He has recently gained his NZTA Traffic Controller qualification and is commencing study for his NZ Certificate in Civil Plant Operation Level 3. 

Nathan is a competent plant operator and he possesses a sound knowledge of machinery and plant maintenance.

 

Howie Turner  

Tyler McLean: Plant Operator - Southland

Tyler has worked with The Roading Company as a seasonal labourer and plant operator over the past years and has now accepted a full time role based in Southland. 

Tyler is Site Safe trained, has his NZTA Traffic Controller and First Aid Workplace Certificate. 

Tyler has sound driving skills and plans to work towards obtaining his Class 5 licence this year.
