It has been an enjoyable season to date, which has included a range of varied work types including gabion basket and guardrail construction, Foam Bitumen Stabilisation construction, subdivision works and footpath construction.

Our programme of works looks promising for the remainder of the season. This is a reflection of the quality of The Roading Company’s work and recognition by the region’s councils and NZTA that due to the skills and expertise of its staff, TRC provides good value for money.

Other News

A move to new premises by the Invercargill branch to smart new premises at 42 Dalry Street, Wallacetown was made in September 2011. Located conveniently, these offices will be ideal for the continued growth of the company. Spacious and modern with a large entrance and reception area, customer parking and a large garage/storage shed – the new premises are proving to be a practical base to operate from.

We welcome Guy Simpson to the construction team. Guy has joined the Central Otago crew as Plant Operator. Guy has been involved in the construction industry since 2003 and has had extensive previous experience as plant operator including grader & excavator operator. Guy is STMS trained and holds several relevant industry qualifications. He has spent 6 winters based on the Crown Range Road, ice gritting and snow clearing. Guy has a great deal of experience in other fields of construction including minor drainage work, truck driving, operating all items of plant and has been involved with Foam Bitumen Stabilisation in the area.

We congratulate Howie Turner who has achieved his ‘National Certificate in Civil Plant Operation, Level 3’.

Mark Cruden attends regular meetings for NZ’s National Pavement Technology Group, of which he is a current active member, representing The NZ Contractors Federation. NPTG are responsible for developing and maintaining best practice standards in NZ pavement design, specification and construction on behalf of NZTA.

Dave Wilson continues to liaise with NZTA as part of the National Maintenance Task Force Working Group to help ensure Southland and Otago receive adequate funding for renewals.

We continue to be proactive with staff training. Refresher courses have been held over the past months for STMS & TC training, Site Safe Civil Passports, and Work Place First Aid. COPTTM and Stabilisation courses are programmed for February.

The Roading Company continues to offer sponsorship local events and causes. We were once again proud sponsors of the Lake Hayes A&P Show and also the Cromwell Kindergarten 2012 Calendar.

We look forward to meeting client expectations on all projects throughout the region for the remainder of the construction season and continue to prepare for tendering of upcoming projects.
